‘No one is going to pay a dollar to kiss you, Max,’ Abby says.

I turn to her in shock. ‘Not me! I’m not going to be standing in the kissing booth. That’s gross,’ I correct her. ‘Besides, I’m management. Hugo will do it!’

‘What?’ Hugo exclaims.

Time to put all of that management talk into practice and convince Hugo he needs to be in the booth. This could be difficult, but I’m up for the challenge.

‘Maybe it should just be a hugging booth?’ Abby suggests. ‘Hugo’s name does have the word “hug” in it after all.’

‘No, no. It needs to be a kissing booth,’ I say and then turn to Hugo. ‘It’s easy, Hugo. All you need to do is stand behind here, and people will come and kiss you. Then they’ll pay money to save the pandas.’

Slowly a smile spreads over Hugo’s face. ‘That sounds awesome!’ he says.

What? Really?

‘Are you sure, Hugo?’ Abby asks. ‘You don’t have to do it just because Max is being bossy.’

I scowl at Abby, even though I’m going to take that as a compliment. Surely being bossy is a critical part of being the boss. It’s the exact same word!

‘I’d love to!’ Hugo says, jumping behind our stall. ‘Pucker up, baby!’ he yells to no one in particular.

As shocked as I am by Hugo’s enthusiasm, I turn to Abby. ‘And that is what I like to call my marmalade style.’
